Washington state employers added 10,900 jobs in June, compared with the previous month, preliminary data from the Washington state Employment Security Department shows.
“Job growth in June was the strongest we’ve seen since January 2025,” says Anneliese Vance-Sherman, chief labor economist at the Employment Security Department, in a press release. “Employment was boosted by gains in several sectors, including leisure and hospitality, government, and information.”
June’s employment gains were significant compared to the prior several months. The state added 800 jobs in May, which snapped a three-month streak of net job losses.
During the 12 months ending in June, Washington state added 1,900 jobs—a 0.05% increase. Employers in the private sector added 6,100 jobs while the public sector shed 4,200 jobs over the year.
The state’s unemployment rate in June held steady at 4.5%, the same rate as both the month- and year-earlier unemployment rates.
Washington’s unemployment rate is above that of the nationwide rate., which was 4.1% in June.
