Cancer Care Northwest has hired Dr. Kyra McComas as a radiation oncologist. McComas previously served as a resident physician at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital has appointed Adam Richards as chief nursing officer. Richards previously worked at Providence Holy Family Hospital under the same title.

Dwight Weigelt has joined ActionCOACH Northwest as a certified business coach. Weigelt concurrently works as an independent agent at Aflac.

Two faculty members, John Pell and Doreen Keller, have been installed at Whitworth University’s Fall Convocation. Pell was permanently appointed to provost and executive vice president in April. Keller was the university’s fourth recipient of the Sue Chandler Endowed Professorship in Education.


Chad Burchard has joined Numerica Credit Union as chief lending officer. Burchard previously served as director of commercial production at First Interstate Bank.

Awards & Designations

Ten North Idaho College students participated in the IDeA Networks of Biological Excellence program over the summer. The students were provided with hands-on training to prepare for science-based careers, such as collecting soil samples and navigating laboratories.

Philanthropy

Project Beauty Share has partnered with Numerica Credit Union and 4 News Now to organize the Hope 4 Kids Hygiene Drive, which will provide hygiene products to local students. Donations in the form of toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and more are being accepted through Oct. 5.

The Pirate Scramble Golf Tournament, organized by the Hillyard Fund Raisers, raised $30,000 to benefit John R. Rogers High School students and staff. The tournament was held on Aug. 16 at the Wandermere Golf Course.

The Roy & Bess Mullet Fund, and Paul Mullet, have gifted Whitworth University $1.5 million to endow the George F. Whitworth Honors Program.

The Innovia Foundation presented $15,000 to the Spokane Civic Theater in support of its Summer Education program. The program removes financial barriers that prevent students from participating.

Several Spokane-area arts organizations have been awarded thousands of dollars in grant funding from ArtsFund and Allen Family Philanthropies. In total, 87 organizations in Eastern Washington received funding.

More than 20 North Idaho-based nonprofits received over $300,000 in grant funding from the Equinox Foundation Grant Program through the Innovia Foundation. The nonprofits expand community opportunities in education, youth development, and more.
