Spokane Valley Coca-Cola plant opens after expansion

Building footprint nearly triples, features sustainable technologies

Draper, Utah-based Swire Pacific Holdings Inc., which does business as Swire Coca-Cola USA, has opened its newly expanded sales and distribution facility in Spokane Valley on Oct. 28.

The facility, located at 9705 E. Montgomery in Spokane Valley, now features a significantly larger total footprint of 102,000 square feet, says Erica Hansen, senior manager of external communications for Swire. Before the addition, the facility’s footprint was 38,600 square feet.

The expansion project is valued at $22.4 million, Hansen says.

Spokane-based Garco Construction Inc. served as general contractor on the project, according to permit information. Wolfe Architectural Group PS, also of Spokane, designed the facility.

Construction crews have renovated 34,000 square feet of preexisting warehouse space and have added an extra 58,000 square feet of warehouse space, Hansen says. The new warehouse footprint is 92,000 square feet in size.

The new facility also includes 10,100 square feet of new office space.

Construction ended in October after 16 months of work that began in July 2024, following permit approval by the city of Spokane Valley.

Operations in the warehouse continued through the renovations.

“We’re most proud about doing that safely, with no accidents,” Hansen says.

The expanded facility includes other upgrades such as 100% LED lighting and a 200-kilowatt rooftop solar power system. The facility was built to LEED Gold standards for renewable construction, according to a Swire press release.

The facility’s loading docks also have been expanded from 16 feet to 30 feet in size. Forklift-accessible aisles have been widened for improved forklift traffic flow and safety.

The new facility is expected to improve capacity to process 4.3 million cases annually and house 4,720 pallets of product, according to the release.

“Spokane is a vital hub in our distribution network,” says Michele McKillip, senior vice president of corporate affairs at Swire, in the press release. “As we explored options for expanding in the North region, Spokane stood out as a community we wanted to invest in long-term. We’re close to our key markets, there is a strong workforce here, and Spokane has always been a supportive business environment.”

Swire operates in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The company employs more than 8,000 full-time employees.
