Spokane-based real estate and development company Bornhoft Commercial is closing its doors, says designated broker and founder Chris Bornhoft, who will be joining Spokane-based real estate company SDS Realty Inc. in January.

“Steve Schmautz is a fantastic guy and runs a great company,” Bornhoft says of SDS Realty's owner. “And he was really looking for help on the development side. And that's where I come from.”

Bornhoft founded Bornhoft Commercial in March 2022, and has 20 years of experience in the real estate development industry.

“A path back into full-time development work aligned well with Steve’s search for the right person to help advance his vision,” Bornhoft says in a Dec. 9 social media announcement.

Bornhoft Commercial currently operates with three brokers and one employee, located at 2607 S. Southeast Blvd., on Spokane's South Hill. One employee will follow Bornhoft in joining SDS Realty, he says.

"In the coming weeks, each of the remaining brokers will have the opportunity to announce their next adventure," Bornhoft's social media announcement says. "Please support and encourage them as they step into their next chapters."

The company's South Hill office space has been leased to a new tenant who will occupy the space in February 2026, he says. Bornhoft then will move operations to SDS Realty, located at 108 N. Washington, Suite 600, in Spokane.

Looking ahead, Bornhoft says he'll continue pursuing commercial development.

“SDS Realty is a quiet giant in our market,” Bornhoft says in the announcement. “Brokerage work will continue, and my clients will still receive help with their sale and leasing needs, now supported by a new platform and a new logo on the jacket.”

SDS Realty was founded in 1992, according to the company's website.
