Spokane-based Responders Emergency Services Credit Union is expanding membership eligibility to 10 counties in southern Idaho following formal approval from the Idaho Department of Finance and the Washington state Department of Financial Institutions.
Effective immediately, eligible first responders who live or work in Ada, Adams, Boise, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, Payette, Valley, and Washington counties may join RESCU and access its full range of financial products and services, according to a press release from the credit union.
In Idaho, RESCU has preexisting charters in the counties of Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, and Shoshone.
The expansion "represents a milestone in RESCU's continued commitment to serving those who dedicate their lives to protecting and supporting their communities," the release says.
Receiving formal approval means thousands of additional first responders and their families now have access to join RESCU. Membership eligibility requirements remain the same; first responders must provide proof of qualifying service, and either live or work in one of the approved counties.
Nearly 300 of the credit union's 2,600 members either live or work Kootenai County, according to the Journal's Spokane-Area Credit Unions list published June 2025.
Of RESCU's $46.4 million in total deposits in 2024 in both Idaho and Washington state, $1.7 million were made in Kootenai County.
The credit union operates two branch locations, at 924 W. Sinto, in Spokane, and 3640 E. Seltice Way, in Post Falls.
