Skyhawks adds second international franchise

Jakarta-based operation plans to build new facility

August 1, 2019
LeAnn Bjerken

Skyhawks Sports Academy Inc., a Spokane-based business that runs athletic programs and camps throughout the country for children ages 18 months to 14 years, has added its second overseas franchise in Indonesia.

The 40-year-old company, which is headquartered at 9425 N. Nevada, runs camps and after-school programs for a variety of sports including; soccer, baseball, basketball, flag football, golf, lacrosse, and cheerleading.

Jason Frazier, president of Skyhawks Franchise Group, says the company offers two programs: SuperTots and Skyhawks.

“SuperTots programs and camps are offered to children 18-months on up to 5-years-old, and Skyhawks covers ages 4 to 14,” he says.

He says Skyhawks Sports doesn’t own the facilities for its camps but is contracted by youth-based organizations that have facilities. Frazier says the majority of the company’s partner organizations are schools, daycare facilities, or parks and recreation departments.

Frazier says the company has 11 full-time and four part-time employees at its headquarters here and another 10 employees throughout the country that help with 10 regional corporate markets.

“We operate 105 franchise territories in 25 U.S. states and in two international locations – China and Indonesia,” he says.

The company first launched the Skyhawks Franchise Group in 2012, to allow for independent ownership opportunities for both its Skyhawks and SuperTots brands in North America. Owners can offer up to 11 different sports across a variety of programs including traditional summer camps, leagues, after-school programs, clinics, and classes.

The company started its first international franchise in China in 2017 and began its second international franchise in May of this year.

Based in Jakarta, and operated by partners Bryan Djuhari and Muljadi Irawan, the new Indonesian franchise offers both the Skyhawks Sports Academy and SuperTots Sports Academy programs.

In addition to providing sports programming for schools, private sports facilities, and apartment complexes, Frazier says that Djuhari and Irawan plan to open their own multipurpose facility to be called FIT Academy.

Frazier says the facility is planned to be a 10-story building with basketball, badminton, and hard-court soccer courts, a gymnastics room, climbing wall, and Olympic-sized lap pool.

“Their new facility is expected to be ready to open by the end of next year,” he says.

Frazier says that over the past 40 years, Skyhawks and SuperTots programs have served about 2.7 million children in 25 states.

Looking ahead, Frazier says the company plans to keep expanding both nationally and internationally.

“Our goal is to secure 40 new units here in the U.S., and another two internationally by the end of this year,” he says. “We have aggressive plans to expand and our sales group is working hard to close those accounts.”

Frazier says the company has also recently begun a partnership with STEM Sports, an Arizona-based company that creates and provides turnkey K-8 educational curriculum that combines STEM disciplines with a variety of sports.
