Kunal Chopra has been named CEO of Spokane Valley-based online marketplace retailer etailz Inc.

He will start in September, replacing Josh Neblett as the company's top executive, says Keri Rhodes, etailz marketing director. Neblett, who resigned from the position earlier this year, isn't involved with the company anymore, she says.

Chopra brings over 15 years of executive experience with tech companies, including Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com Inc., and Groupon Inc. He will report directly to Mike Feurer, CEO of Trans World Entertainment Corp., which acquired etailz for $75 million in October 2016.

In a press release, Feurer says Chopra brings a combination of “technological expertise, entrepreneurial character and operational excellence” to the etailz executive team.

He also says in the release, “Further, he has a demonstrated track record of accomplishment at some of the largest, most dynamic and well-respected companies in the world.”

Etailz has 163 employees and occupies 40,000 square feet of space in the former Itron Inc. headquarters building at 2818 N. Sullivan Road, Rhodes says. The company also has four job openings posted on its website, although its current workforce is down from 288 employees last September.

Originally called Green Cupboards, etailz was co-founded as an online retailer of ecofriendly household products in 2008 by Neblett and his wife, Sarah, and prominent Spokane angel investor Tom Simpson.

The company now sells a broad range of products through partnerships with Amazon and other online marketplaces.

Trans World reported its etailz subsidiary had an operating loss of $1.5 million based on revenue totaling $35.1 million for 2019 fiscal first quarter ended May 4. That’s up from a loss of $2.8 million based on sales of $42.5 million in the year-earlier quarter.
