A fast-casual restaurant and a gas station are being developed at the Pointe at Post Falls, officials with the c ity of Post Falls say.

Shelly Enderud, city administrator with the City of Post Falls, says Panda Restaurant Group Inc. is building a Panda Express restaurant at 6291 W. Pointe Parkway. Terina Lefler, permit coordinator concierge with the city, says a Maverik Inc. gas station and convenience store also is planned for the southeast intersection of Pointe Parkway and Beck Road.

Draper, Utah-based Wadsworth Development Group acquired the vacant lots of the 161-acre Pointe at Post Falls commercial development from Carlsbad, Calif. real estate developer Foursquare Properties Inc. in mid-2013. The transaction did not include the existing 130,000-square-foot Cabela’s Inc. store and 150,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter.

Wadsworth is an affiliate of Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co., also of Draper, which is the contractor that constructed the Interstate 90 interchange at Beck Road in 2013, providing close freeway access to the Pointe at Post Falls.

Enderud says she’s not aware of an official opening date for the Panda Express, which will be located just west of the Walmart store, but work is moving quickly on the site.

“Their site plan is all approved and everything, so they’re going to try to get everything paved before fall,” Enderud says. 

The building permit for the Panda Express site shows the valuation for the project at $750,000.

Enderud says the Panda Express project could be the beginning of a long-awaited wave of construction activity in the development. She says Wadsworth Development Group has unconfirmed plans to build a refrigerated storage facility and an outlet for Richland, Calif.-based custom closet organizer and storage system chain California Closets.

However, Lefler says the development has a history of generating buzz without follow-through.

“There’s been lots of different talks of potential things, but nothing has come through,” Lefler says. “That’s been the case for several years now. People have interest, but then nothing happens.”

The Cabela’s sporting goods store opened in 2007 at 101 N. Cabela Way, at the far west end of the Pointe at Post Falls, and the Walmart store opened three years later, at 6405 W. Pointe Parkway.

Other than plans for the Panda Express and the Maverik, Lefler says no other plans have been filed yet with the city for the Pointe at Post Falls.

Panda Express, a Walnut Grove, Calif.-based fast-serve American-Chinese cuisine restaurant chain, has 11 outlets in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area, according to the company’s website.

As earlier reported in the Journal, Salt Lake City-based Maverik operates five gas station and convenience stores in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area and two more are under construction.
