Second new hotel planned near Spokane International Airport

Timeline similar to that of nearby La Quinta project

March 16, 2017

For the second time in a few weeks, plans have emerged for a new airport hotel on the West Plains.

In the latest hotel plan, the Sleep Inn/Mainstay hotel chain plans to erect a $6.3 million, 87-room hotel east of the airport, near the Geiger-Interstate 90 interchange, says Steve Kynast, the project manager.

Consolidated Construction Co., of Bismarck, N.D., is the contractor for the project, which will include a three-story, 47,200-square-foot hotel building to be located at 3809 S. Geiger Blvd., at the former site of the Airway Express Inn, Kynast says. M+A Design Inc., of Fond Du Lac, Wis., designed the project.

He says Consolidated Construction hopes to demolish structures on the project site and start construction in June.

The new hotel will include an indoor swimming pool and spa, a breakfast area, and a small bar and lounge, he says.

A site plan he provided shows the hotel will have 87 standard parking spaces and 13 semitrailer parking spaces.

The Sleep Inn/Mainstay hotel will open in March or April 2018 and will employ about 20 people, Kynast says.

Consolidated Construction also plans to start work in July in Pullman on a Sleep Inn/Mainstay project similar in scope to the Spokane project, he says.

Sleep Inn/Main Stay is a subsidiary of Rockville, Md.-based Choice Hotels International, which has a number of other lodging brands, including Quality Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites, Rodeway Inn & Suites, and EconoLodge Inn & Suites, all of which have facilities in the Spokane area.

The Sleep Inn/Mainstay project plans come on the heels of plans for a La Quinta Hotel project reported in the Journal earlier this month.

In that project, an as-yet unnamed developer-owner plans to begin construction this spring on a $10 million, 84-room hotel at 4523 S. Dowdy Road, just south of the airport and a mile southwest of the Sleep Inn/Mainstay project site.
