Pro Builders erects new building in Hillyard

Company to move from shared location nearby

July 14, 2016

Pro Builders General Contractors LLC is constructing a new office building at 4445 N. Freya in Spokane’s Hillyard neighborhood to serve as its new headquarters.

Chad McDonald, who operates Pro Builders with his father, owner Terry McDonald, says the company plans to build the 4,900-square-foot building at the southern end of its current site, just north of a U.S. Post Office along Rich Avenue.

McDonald says the building will cost about $300,000 to construct, and will include office spaces as well as maintenance and manufacturing space. Along with parking, the outside lot will include storage space for various construction equipment.

McDonald says the building will have an expandable design, with the potential to be converted into leasable tenant office spaces.

“We’re in the initial phases of predevelopment, hoping to break ground in mid-August,” says McDonald. “I would expect we will have it completed by the end of this year.”

Terry McDonald started the business in 1983. In addition to the McDonalds, the company employs two office staff members and about 15 field employees who work on the construction projects.

Pro Builders provides three main services: commercial general contracting and subcontracting work to other general contractors, the design and assembly of pre-engineered metal buildings, and construction consulting for projects in their initial stages of design.

“The buildings we create are usually the largest, least expensive option,” says McDonald. “They’re not very attractive, so we try to use architectural aspects to make them more aesthetically pleasing, while still building effectively.”
