Laundry services company expands with two acquisition

5 Mile Wash operators buy outlets from retiring owner

February 11, 2016

Denny and Kelli Thompson, who own the 5 Mile Wash & Dry in north Spokane, at 1920 W. Francis, have bought Susie’s Laundromat & Dry Cleaning and Deer Park Cleaners from longtime owner Susan Bates, who is retiring after 25 years in business.

Susie’s Laundromat, which has been renamed the South Hill Wash & Dry, is located at 920 S. Monroe. It is a full and self-service laundromat, including drop off laundry service, dry cleaning, alterations, large-capacity washers and dryers, and service attendants during all hours of operation. The location has four employees.

Deer Park Cleaners, located at 120 E. Crawford in Deer Park, is a dry cleaning operation specializing in stain removal, wedding dress cleaning and preservation, and alterations. That business has five employees.

The 5 Mile Wash & Dry location is a full and self-service laundromat with drop-off laundry and dry cleaning services, alterations, and large capacity washer and dryers, as well as attendants available during all hours of operation. The location has six employees.

Kelli Thompson says it was through shared services between 5 Mile and Deer Park Cleaners that the couple came to know Bates.

“5 Mile uses Deer Park for its dry cleaning services, so we’ve known Susan since we started,” Thompson says. “When we heard she was retiring, we made it known we were interested in buying her two businesses.”

While some change is always expected with new ownership, she says she’d like to keep most things the same, including retaining the current staff at all locations.

“We hope to make it a smooth transition,” she says.

One change Thompson says she would like to see is extending the pickup and delivery service options for all three locations.

“It’s something we’ll be implementing slowly, but I would especially like to see more corporate businesses,” she says.
