North Bank stadium to be completed in September

5,000-seat venue will be home to football, soccer games for SPS

Construction is well underway on Spokane Public Schools’ new sports stadium, which is on schedule to be completed by late September, says Greg Forsyth, director of capital projects for SPS.

The 5,000-seat venue is being built in Spokane’s North Bank area on a site bordered by Washington Street to the east, Boone Avenue to the north, Howard Street to the west, and just north of The Podium Powered by STCU sports complex. The stadium project has a total value of $37.8 million, says Forsyth.

Garco Construction Inc., of Spokane, is the general contractor on the project. Halme Construction Inc., also of Spokane, conducted site work prior to construction, says Forsyth. Spokane-based ALSC Architects PS designed the project.

When completed, the stadium will host the school district’s football and soccer matches, in addition to being the home base for United Soccer League men’s and women’s professional teams. The venue also will host concerts, large-scale special events, and other sporting events.

The project includes a 44,800-square-foot field, locker rooms and service areas, 15,500 square feet of concourse and ancillary spaces for spectators and participants, 5,500 square feet of mechanical and administrative space, and a 5,500-square-foot press box.

As part of the proposal, the Spokane Public Facilities District will take over maintenance and operations of the SPS-owned facility once complete.

Garco will begin construction next month on a 500-stall surface parking lot that will serve the new stadium at 708 W. Boone, which is the former site of a Value Village thrift store. Forsyth says it will be completed by late summer.

The Spokane Public Facilities District purchased the Value Village store site last year for $5.3 million.
