Newport Hospital to construct $5.2 million health clinic

T.W. Clark aims to finish project in July

October 22, 2015

Spokane general contractor T.W. Clark Construction LLC has started work on a new $5.2 million medical clinic on the Newport Hospital & Health Services campus, in Newport, Wash., about an hour’s drive northeast of Spokane, via U.S 2.

The 17,000-square-foot clinic will have 32 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, and office space for 12 primary care providers, says Tom Wilbur, CEO of Newport Hospital & Health Services.

The clinic will be at the northeast corner of Spruce Street and Cass Avenue on the north edge of the hospital campus, which is at 714 W. Pine.

Foundation work is under way at the new clinic site, and the construction contract calls for T.W. Clark to complete the project within a year, although Wilbur says the contractor has set a target date of July 1 to turn the project over to the Newport Hospital & Health Services.

The project was designed by NAC|Architecture, of Spokane.

The new medical clinic will enable Newport Hospital & Health Services to consolidate its clinic operations, which currently are in two locations. One medical clinic is attached to the hospital, and the other is about two blocks south of the hospital campus, Wilbur says.

Wilbur says the new facility will have work stations for 12 providers.

The current clinics are staffed at full capacity with 10 providers consisting of six physicians, a general surgeon, and three physician assistants, he says.

Wilbur says the same space to be vacated by the current clinics will be converted into workstations for visiting physicians. Other hospital services and operations that currently are split between on-campus and off-campus sites also will be consolidated in some of the current clinic space, he says.

The Newport Hospital & Health Services campus includes a 24-bed acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, and a 50-bed long-term care facility.
