Imprezzio acquires Columbus, Ohio-based website design company

Content management system opens markets

December 4, 2014
Judith Spitzer

Spokane-based Imprezzio Inc. has acquired AFS Web, a Colum-bus, Ohio-based creative web design and development company, as well as its trademarked content management system ZOOM CMS.

Imprezzio, co-founded here in 2004 by Dave Talarico and Kelly Birr, develops business software that handles contact management. The company also provides digital marketing services for businesses. Its corporate offices occupy more than 12,000 square feet on the sixth and seventh floors of the Legion Building, at 108 N. Washington.

Dick McNeely, a spokesman for Imprezzio, declines to disclose the terms of the transaction.

Imprezzio’s holding company, DaRK Capital, and its subsidiaries employ more than 160 people, 50 of whom are in Spokane, McNeely says. Its technical operations office is based in Kirkland, Wash., and is led by Birr, the company’s chief innovation officer.

The company’s Internet marketing arm, Imprezzio Marketing, is located in Toronto. Another subsidiary, Imprezzio Global, which is based in Romania, serves customers in Europe and the U.S.

McNeely says the recent acquisition is part of the company’s growth strategy.

“The acquisition of AFS Web allows us to also broaden our customer base,” McNeely says. “They bring us clients from larger industries like municipalities and banking.”

AFS Web was founded in 1997 by Christina Blenk, and the company has designed websites for clients in Columbus as well as nationally. Blenk remains with the company as an employee and continues to oversee AFS operations in Columbus.

The company developed ZOOM CMS to help clients create proprietary, interactive websites that are more secure than those created by using “open source” tools such as Wordpress.com, McNeely claims.

McNeely says the acquisition won’t require hiring for specific positions, but the company is always looking for skilled developers and programmers as well as sales staff.

“We may be adding sales staff in the future since we’re on a very fast growth track,” he says.

Russell Page, former president of Imprezzio, last year was named CEO of Spokane-based DaRK Capital Inc., the parent company of Imprezzio.

Page says adding AFS and ZOOM CMS is an important part of expanding the company’s portfolio and demonstrates its continuing growth.

Other subsidiaries of DaRK Capital include Portland, Ore.-based Bad Kitty Studios, which provides online marketing, graphic and web design.
