Children's Home Society opens North Side mental health facility

-

August 14, 2014
Staff Report

The Children’s Home Society of Washington, a Seattle-based child-advocacy nonprofit, has opened a mental health office in the Northeast Community Center, at 4001 N. Cook.

The office will provide children and families in north Spokane greater access to mental health facilities, says Janica Lockhart, a Seattle-based spokeswoman for CHSW.

Two full-time counselors will assist children and their families and collaborate with other community organizations at the center, Lockhart says.

CHSW also operates the Galland-Ashlock Family Resource Center, in Spokane Valley, and the Spokane County District Court Children’s Waiting Room.

The family resource center, located at 2323 N. Discovery Place, offers counseling and home-visiting programs. The children’s waiting room, at 721 N. Jefferson, provides a safe environment for children to play and learn while their parents conduct court-related business, Lockhart says.

CHSW was founded in 1896 and claims to be the oldest and largest statewide nonprofit children’s organization, serving more than 39,000 children and their families.
