Waste services companies join forces

Concerns submit transfer station operations proposal

June 5, 2014
Katie Ross

PacifiClean Environmental LLC, a subsidiary of Spokane-based SRM Development Co., has partnered with Waste Connections of Washington Inc., a subsidiary of  Vancouver, Wash.-based Waste Connections Inc., to provide waste management services to Spokane County.

Together, the entities have submitted a plan in response to a request for proposals issued by Spokane County, says Larry Condon, principal of PacifiClean Environmental.

The county’s request entails operating two waste transfer stations, Condon says, one in Colbert, Wash., and the other in Spokane Valley. It also involves the transportation of municipal solid waste from the transfer stations to the city of Spokane’s waste-to-energy facility for disposal; the transfer and disposal of yard debris from both transfer stations; and some ancillary functions, including recycling, management and disposal of moderate risk wastes, and site maintenance.

“Right now it’s in review; we feel that between the two companies, we have a strong partnership,” Condon says. He believes the county will make a decision in the next few weeks.

In addition to the county proposal, the two companies are in the early stages of developing an intermodal general transport facility in Airway Heights, Condon says. Currently, the companies have a 230-acre property under contract for the facility, but Condon declines for now to disclose specific plans for the facility.

“It would be intermodal hub,” Condon says, “So you could move any material for aerospace, for commerce of any kind, anywhere in the country. One thing specifically is municipal solid waste. We have the aero cluster out there, so we could move parts for planes, metal, steel, raw materials, anything that needs moving.”
