Ginno wins $4.2 million job to renovate school in Cd'A

Work includes classroom remodel, new library, lab, gym at Bryan Elementary

October 10, 2013

The Coeur d'Alene School District has awarded Ginno Construction, of Coeur d'Alene, a $4.2 million contract to remodel and expand Bryan Elementary School, says Laura Rumpler, a district spokeswoman.

The project will include remodeling the 21-classroom complex at 802 Harrison, about a half-mile north of Coeur d'Alene's city center, Rumpler says. The project also will include construction of a new library, a computer lab, a teachers' lounge, a front-office addition, and a 6,800-square-foot gymnasium, she says.

Also, a hallway enclosure to be constructed nearly surrounding the building is expected to increase building security by reducing the number of access points at the school.

Longwell+Trapp Architects PLLC, of Hayden, designed the project, and Coleman Engineering, also of Hayden, is the civil engineer.

Ginno's bid came in well under the district's original construction estimate of $4.8 million, Rumpler says, adding that the bid edged out the next lowest construction bid by less than $2,000.

Other bidders on the project included Contractors Northwest Inc., of Coeur d'Alene; Meridian Construction Inc., of Spokane Valley; and T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane.

Ginno is to begin work this fall, starting with driveway and parking lot improvements. Initial work will include removing a portable classroom to make room for a bus loop, Rumpler says. The contractor will begin work on the building renovation and additions after the school year ends next June, she says. All work is scheduled to be completed in August 2014.

The project is being funded through a $32.7 million bond measure approved by voters last year.
