Brothers buy Valley shop to launch street-rod startup

Quantum Mechanics will specialize in work on '60s-era muscle cars

June 20, 2013
Mike McLean

Brothers Scott and Ken Adkins have bought a 5,100-square-foot commercial building in Spokane Valley, where they plan to open on July 1 an automotive service center to be called Quantum Mechanics LLC.

Quantum Mechanics will specialize in servicing 1960s-era muscle cars, Scott Adkins says.

"It's a passion of ours," says Adkins, adding that he owns a few classic street-rod cars and trucks.

The shop site is the former Midas Auto Service Experts location at 10415 E. Sprague.

Commercial agents Mike King, of Spokane-based NAI Black, and Sam Morse, of Cantu Commercial Properties LLC., of Spokane Valley, handled the real estate transaction.

Adkins is employed in the banking business, and he says his brother will be general manager of the shop. Quantum Mechanics plans to hire three other service technicians, he says.

Adkins says he was born and raised in the Spokane area and owned a general-service automotive shop in Provo, Utah, from 1998 to 2001 before returning here. He says he and his brother collectively have 25 years of experience in automotive services.

Retail & wholesale

Bruttles Gourmet Candies has leased 3,500 square feet of retail space at 12609 E. Sprague and plans to move its Spokane Valley shop there from leased space at 101 N. University. The company also operates a downtown Spokane shop at 828 W. Sprague. Colin Conway and Lou Neeser, both of Kiemle & Hagood Co., and Chris Siemens, of Windermere Real Estate/Spokane, handled the transaction.

The Masonry Center Inc., a Boise-based tile, brick, and stone distributor, has leased 17,200 square feet of space at 715 E. Sprague, and plans to move its Spokane-area operations there in July from leased space at 16311 E. Euclid. Jack Kestell, of Kestell Co., and Jon Jeffreys and Darren Slackman, both of NAI Black, handled the transaction.

Medical & Service

Northwest Neuropathy Relief Centers LLC, a new Spokane Valley pain treatment provider, has leased 2,600 square feet of office space for a clinic at 12409 E. Mission. Mike King, of NAI Black, and Cory Barbieri, of Goodale & Barbieri Co., handled the transaction.

H&R Block Enterprises Inc., a Kansas City, Mo.-based income tax-preparation service, has leased 1,900 square feet of office space for a new branch at 2948 N. Government Way, in Coeur d'Alene. Craig Hunter and Rob Kannapien, both of Coldwell Banker Commercial Schneidmiller Realty, handled the transaction.

Investment

Bud and Kathy Hodges, of Post Falls, have bought as an investment a 2,300-square-foot office building at 101 W. Mullan, in Post Falls. Craig Hunter and Rob Kannapien, both of Coldwell Banker Commercial Schneidmiller Realty, handled the transaction.
