Shamrock bids lowest on Rockwood job

April 11, 2013
Jessica Valencia

Shamrock Paving Co., of Spokane, is the apparent low bidder on a $2.2 million project to repave Rockwood Boulevard and a portion of South Upper Terrace Road, says city spokeswoman Marlene Feist.

Work will entail resurfacing about a two-mile length of Rockwood Boulevard between Cowley Street, at the north end of the winding stretch of road, and Southeast Boulevard, at the south end. Shamrock also will repave a quarter-mile length of South Upper Terrace Road between Rockwood Boulevard and 17th Avenue.

City plans call for stormwater piping and drains to be replaced along the roadway. In addition to repaving and stormwater work, the project will include installing about 2,000 linear feet of 12-inch water main pipe under Rockwood Boulevard between Arthur Street and Helena Court, Feist says.

The project, funded by the 2004 street bond program, is slated to begin in May and will continue into the fall, she says.

The bid came in under the engineer's estimate of $2.4 million. Four other bids were received for the project, three of which came in over the engineer's estimate.
