Valley gym moves to new spot

Global Fitness prepares to renovate two-thirds of space in Valley center

January 31, 2013

Global Fitness has moved its Spokane Valley gym to the Opportunity Center shopping complex in Spokane Valley and plans to renovate a large portion of its 33,000-square-foot space there, says Jeremy Bostwic, business manager for Global Fitness.

The gym currently occupies about 10,000 square feet of the space it's leasing, which is located at 12121 E. Sprague, near the intersection of Sprague Avenue and Pines Road, says Bostwic.

The company plans to start making upgrades to the remaining two-thirds of the space within the next few weeks.

Bostwic says a daycare operation, group fitness area, and all exercise and weightlifting equipment are fully operational.

Areas such as the locker rooms and a pool still need to be built, he says.

Mike Turbak, development services coordinator for the city of Spokane says the property underwent a change-of-occupancy designation before the gym could begin moving into the space. The space formerly was home to a Rite Aid store and a card shop, Bostwic says.

Global Fitness previously had been located at 9233 E. Montgomery in the Valley.

Global Fitness formerly operated both a Spokane Valley and North Side location, until the 33,000 square-foot facility located near the North Division "Y" closed in July 2010.

Bostwic says the gym has about 1,000 members, and sees about 100 members a day use the facility.
