Vandervert Construction Inc., of Spokane, is calling for bids from subcontractors on a $9 million Residence Inn by Marriott hotel project next to the Washington State University campus in Pullman, says Scott Gottsch, a project manager for Vandervert.

The project is the latest of four hotel projects with a combined value of $38 million for which Vandervert is the general contractor.

The start of construction on the Pullman project is at least a few weeks away, Gottsch says.

The 131-room, 93,200-square-foot Residence Inn will be located on North Fairway Drive, near the Palouse Ridge Golf Course at the east end of the WSU campus and is to be finished in August.

Residence Inns are designed and marketed for extended-stay travelers. Suites include fully-equipped kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas, Marriott International Inc.'s website says.

WSU entered into a 99-year lease agreement for the site in April with the project owner, Stoneridge Cos., of Englewood Colo. Under terms of the agreement, lease payments are to reach $50,000 annually by the sixth year of the lease, WSU said in a press release.

Stoneridge initially will lease 3 acres of land for the project and will have the option to expand that to 7.5 acres during the first 10 years of the lease.

In Spokane, Vandervert also has called for subcontractors to bid on work for a second phase of renovations valued at $1.5 million at the Holiday Inn Express, at 801 N. Division just north of downtown.

The second phase will include completing an exterior facade upgrade, a 5,600-square-foot lobby, a covered vehicle approach, a new front entry, and a patio, Gottsch says.

Vandervert completed the initial phase of the facade upgrade in May.

Steven Meek Architects PS, of Spokane, designed both phases.

Basalt Hospitality LP, which is a partnership with Spokane hoteliers Kent and Cal Clausen and former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, owns the hotel.

In Coeur d'Alene, Vandervert is the contractor on a $15 million Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel project under construction at 2250 W. Seltice Way.

The 118-room, four-story hotel, scheduled to be completed in May, is being developed jointly by kVc Development Inc., of Spokane Valley, and Parkwood Business Properties, of Coeur d'Alene.

Lindquist Architects PS, of Spokane Valley, designed it.

Vandervert also is the contractor on a $12.5 million first phase of a Springhill Suites Hotel project in Bellingham, Wash. That project is located on a high-traffic arterial about two miles northwest of Bellingham's city center.

Lynnwood, Wash.-based 360 Degree Hotel Group Ltd. is the project owner.

The project's first phase, which includes construction of a 118-room, 77,000-square-foot hotel, is scheduled to be completed in August. A second phase tpentatively is scheduled for 2014.
