SHBA Festival of Homes set to begin this weekend

Free scattered-site event to showcase 38 homes erected by 20 builders

The Spokane Home Builders Association's seventh annual Fall Festival of Homes will be held over the next two three-day weekends.

Once again, the scattered-site event will be free, says Bill Taylor, SHBA's membership director.

Homes will be offered in a variety of listed prices, from $198,700 for a three-bedroom home with 1,700 square feet of living space in Liberty Lake, to $689,000 for a 4-bedroom, 5,300-square-foot home north of Colbert, Taylor says. The show also will include a 7,400-square-foot, six-bedroom luxury home, in the Moran Prairie neighborhood, although the builder chose not to list a price for it, he says.

Host-site developments will include Ponderosa Ridge, on Spokane's North Side; Parkside at Legacy Ridge, in Liberty Lake; Valley Springs, in Spokane Valley; Eagle Ridge, in the Latah Valley area of south Spokane; and Maple Terrace, in Cheney.

Fall Festival programs and tour maps will be available at the host sites, Taylor says. Tour maps also will be available through the festival's website at spokanefestivalofhomes.com, he says.

"The Fall Festival of Homes will be open to the public to showcase that our members are open for business," Taylor says. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23-25 and Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

Taylor says all of the homes are new products built since last year's Fall Festival of Homes.

The festival will include 10 Built Green certified homes, which meet energy conservation and sustainability standards developed and adopted by the SHBA, Avista Corp., the Washington state Department of Ecology, and other public and private entities. Also, 10 homes in the show meet Energy Star standards, a government-backed program that recognizes energy efficiency.

A panel of homebuilders from throughout the Pacific Northwest will judge entries in the festival for categories such as best design, best kitchen, best master suite, best landscaping, and best overall, for a number of price levels.

Spokane-based Fred's Appliance Inc. will give away $8,000 worth of appliances to one lucky attendee, Taylor says. Attendees can register for the promotional drawing at the designated host sites.

The Fall Festival also is participating in an ongoing promotion in which KREM-TV and Avista Corp. will give away a new Toyota Prius hybrid automobile, he says.

Taylor says several thousand people usually view homes in the show.

"We have people who fly in from California and Nevada to visit because they like coming to see what we have to offer in the Pacific Northwest," Taylor says.

The SHBA is a building-industry trade group with members in seven Eastern Washington counties.
