Valley mover rebuilds, plans expansion into new markets

Action Moving switches affiliation to Bekins as part of growth strategy

December 16, 2010
Mike McLean

Action Moving Services Inc., of Spokane Valley, recently completed a $1.2 million building project and, after changing its affiliation to Hillside Ill.-based Bekins Van Lines LLC, is looking to expand its operations into other cities, says Jeff Gish, the company's president and general manager.

Action Moving formerly was an agent for Westmont, Ill.-based Allied Van Lines Inc. The change to Bekins will enable Action Moving to expand into markets where Bekins isn't fully represented, Gish says.

Action Moving replaced its 16,000-square-foot building at 10115 E. Knox in stages over two years after portions of the building collapsed under heavy snow in the winter of 2008-2009, Gish says.

The structure now includes 4,000 square feet of office space and 12,000 square feet of warehouse space, Gish says, adding that the project also included installation of a new truck scale and some paving work.

Pro Builders, of Spokane, was the general contractor on the project, and Labar Architecture Inc., of Spokane, designed it. The project was funded in part through a U.S. Small Business Administration-backed loan financed by Coeur d'Alene-based Mountain West Bank.

Action Moving currently is planning to expand operations into the Seattle area, and also is looking for opportunities to expand into the Portland and Boise markets, Gish says.

Gish has owned Action Moving since 2006. It currently employs 23 people and has a total of 20 trucks and vehicles.
