Antiques mall moves to space on Division

October 21, 2010

Spencer's Antiques & Collectibles Emporium has moved from an 8,500-square-foot space at 3818 N. Market to a 14,200-square-foot space at 1325 N. Division.

Kay Kallenbach, owner of the antiques mall, says the Washington state Department of Transportation bought the building on Market as part of the North Spokane Corridor project.

The antiques mall formerly included 48 vendors and had one full-time and four part-time employees, she says. Within three days after the mall had moved to the new location, the number of vendors had increased to 68, and one of the part-time staff positions was increased to full time.

Vendors at the mall rent display space, display cases, and bookcases. The mall also charges 13 percent of each vendor's monthly sales.

Kallenbach says she became a manager at Spencer's Antiques in 2005, and bought the business in 2008. She says the new location is more expensive, but with the added dealers, the business can cover the increased costs.
