Giant Storage complex planned in Post Falls

First phase will include 70K square feet of space

July 15, 2021
Kevin Blocker

Post Falls-based Steel Structures America Inc. has started construction on the first phase of what eventually will be a self-storage complex encompassing 10 buildings with a storage capacity of 170,000 square feet, says the project’s co-owner.

Located at 2202 N. Highway 41, near the northeast corner of state Route 41 and Horsehaven Avenue in Post Falls, the initial phase will have eight buildings with 70,000-square feet of storage space with an estimated project cost of $4.5 million, Steel Structures co-owner Justin Sternberg says.

Construction of the last two storage buildings likely will occur in the fourth quarter of this year. He declines to disclose a construction value for those structures.

Steel Structures serves as its own general contractor, Sternberg says.

Sternberg and his brother, Shawn Sternberg, co-own and operate a series of storage unit complexes that recently underwent a rebranding and now are identified by the name Giant Storage.

The Sternbergs operate a Giant Storage at 13520 E. Nora, in Spokane Valley; at 154 W. Ivy, in Sagle, Idaho; and in Monument, Colorado, north of Colorado Springs. Beyond storage units, Sternberg says he and his brother have their hands in close to a dozen other businesses under the umbrella of Sternberg Investments LLC.

Sternberg says he and his brother entered the self-storage industry in 1997 and have watched business increase nearly every year since.

“Especially in the last few years, as soon as you build it, you’re at capacity,” he says. “Most storage units in (Kootenai) county are at capacity right now.”
