Prairie Hills expansion could get started soon

Apartment complex addition to include 180 living units; permits total $11 million

February 26, 1997
Linn Parish

Work could start soon on a planned $11 million, 180-unit second and final phase of development at the big Prairie Hills at Grayhawk apartment complex, on Spokanes North Side.

The city of Spokane has issued permits for the construction of nine apartment buildings at the southwest corner of Lincoln Road and Napa Street, just east of the first phase of Prairie Hills and a short distance from Cedar Springs Estates and several other large apartment complexes.

Prairie Hills LLC, of Spokane, is listed on the permits as the developer of the second phase of Prairie Hills at Grayhawk, and Spokane construction company Lancze G. Douglass Inc. is listed as the building permits applicant and the contractor for the project. Lancze Douglass, owner of that company, couldnt be reached for comment.

Douglass had disclosed plans earlier to build the second phase eventually, but until now has not signaled when that construction would begin.

Plans submitted with the city show that the proposed apartment buildings include six three-story structures with 24 living units each and three two-story structures with 12 living units each. Those buildings will house a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom living units.

The project also includes 12 garage buildings ranging in size from four to 30 vehicle bays.

The first phase of development at Prairie Hills included 10 buildings with a total of 204 living units and a recreational facility. It was developed beginning in 2000.
