Federal Express eyeing project in Coeur dÂ’Alene

Bids sought for facility, but no contractor named

February 26, 1997
Lisa Harrell

Memphis, Tenn.-based Federal Express has been considering moving ahead with a project in Coeur dAlene, but isnt elaborating on its plans.

Jess Bunn, a spokesman for the big overnight cargo company, says Federal Express doesnt have a lease executed, so we dont have anything to say yet.

He declines to answer questions, and it isnt precisely clear what Federal Express plans to build in the Lake City. The project was described as a 30 van station in a plans report released by one of the building trade agencies here and used by contractors to prepare bids last summer for the project. The bids had been due by Aug. 12, 1997.

A Coeur dAlene general contractor, who asked not to be named, says that Federal Express sought bids last summer for the design and construction of a building, but no information has been released on the project since then.

We have been in a holding pattern, he says.

The contractor says that Federal Express had been looking at a site in Coeur dAlene Commerce Park, which is in the northern part of the North Idaho city. The contractor says that the site is located across from a postal annex that occupies space in the park.
