Rosauers acquires grocery store in Twisp

Supermarket chain announces additional projects in Montana

August 1, 2024

Spokane-based Rosauers Supermarkets Inc. has acquired Hank’s Harvest Foods, in Twisp, Washington, bringing the Spokane-based grocer’s total store count to 24.

Shoppers shouldn’t expect many changes at the store located at 412 E. Methow Valley Highway, about 175 miles northwest of Spokane, Rosauers CEO Cliff Rigsbee says.

“We’re going to continue doing things the way they’ve done it in the near term,” he says. “They do a great job of taking care of the community.”

Rigsbee declines to disclose the terms of the transaction.

The acquisition also includes the neighboring Hank’s Mini Mart Inc. and gas station, at 410 E. Methow Valley Highway.

All 68 of the store’s employees will be retained, Rigsbee says.

Hank and Judy Konrad purchased Hank’s in 1975 and built the 30,000-square-foot current store a few years later.

“Hank and Judy are ready to retire after 50 years of serving that community,” Rigsbee says. “He reached out to us and asked us if we’d be interested in acquiring that store.”

Rosauers also recently announced a pair of Montana projects.

The supermarket chain signed an agreement to build a new store in Belgrade, Montana, near Bozeman.

“That probably won’t open until fall of ’26,” Rigsbee says of what will be the chain’s 25th store.

Rosauers also is currently renovating its store in Libby, Montana, about 150 miles northeast of Spokane.

“We constantly are remodeling,” Rigsbee says. “We try to have one or two remodels going on at any given time.”

The remodel in Libby was spurred by the store’s need for an upgraded refrigeration system, he says.

The project will be completed in phases to minimize disruption to customers and is expected to be finished by December, according to a press release from Spokane-based contractor Meridian Construction & Development Inc.

Rosauers was founded in 1934 and has stores in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. The supermarket chain has about 2,100 employees companywide.
