AAA Washington to shutter South Hill location

Planned closure is part of broader plan to shift to virtual model

July 31, 2024
Journal of Business Staff

(Updated Aug. 1 to clarify that the business operations office in Coeur d'Alene will remain open, but the retail location there will close.)

AAA Washington plans to close its location on Spokane's South Hill as part of a broader plan to move to a virtual service model, the organization has announced.

The location at 1314 S. Grand Blvd. is one of 12 in Washington and northern Idaho that the organization plans to close by July 1, 2025. The federation of motor clubs, which offers roadside assistance and related services to members, plans to maintain its business operations office in Coeur d'Alene, but not its customer-facing operations. The organization also will maintain its headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, and an office in Vancouver, Washington.

AAA Washington reports that an analysis of its consumer behavior reveals that less than 4% of its members in the territory visit its brick-and-mortar locations in person.

Following the closures, members will be asked to access services through the organization's website.

AAA Washington was founded in 1904 in Seattle and boasts 1.2 million members. The national organization was founded in Chicago two years earlier and has more than 60 million members.
