Muv Fitness readies for remodel at new South Hill location

Revamping supermarket building to cost $4.6M

August 31, 2023

A long-vacant Albertsons grocery store building on Spokane’s South Hill could soon be converted to a Müv Fitness gym facility, building permit applications under review by the city of Spokane show.

The estimated cost of planned tenant improvements is $4 million, the application shows. Additionally, an application to install a swimming pool valued at $640,000 also is under review for the site.

Perlo Construction LLC, of Tualatin, Oregon, is the contractor for the remodel.

Evolution Pools & Spas LLC, of Keizer, Oregon, is shown as the contractor on the permit application for the pool project.

The building is located at 510 E. 37th, on the southwest corner of 37th Avenue and Grand Boulevard.

Spokane-based real estate investment company Ewell Center LLC owns the site. Paroline & Associates Inc., a Bellevue, Washington-based construction company, has applied for a change of use and interior remodel permit in addition to the swimming pool permit on behalf of the owners.

Representatives of Paroline & Associates couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.

As previously reported in the Journal, Müv Fitness will occupy the entirety of the 39,000-square-foot, 33-year-old building, which has been vacant since 2017.

Site plans designed by Portland, Oregon-based Process Architecture & Design indicate the interior of the gym will have room for group exercises, a basketball court, strength training, cycling, tanning, a day care, a recovery room, a sales and reception area, a few offices, an employee lounge, and storage rooms.

Demolition permits were issued in June for the interior of the building.

A 3,600-square-foot deck area will surround a 1,500-square-foot, 47,000-gallon in-ground swimming pool, according to permit information.
