Hörmann Group North America Inc., through its affiliate Hörmann Northwest Door LLC, is relocating its Inland Northwest sales center to Liberty Lake, from the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, in Spokane Valley.

Hörmann Group North America is part of Germany-based Hörmann Group, a global manufacturer and distributor of residential, commercial, and high-performance garage doors.

The Liberty Lake facility is rising at 2526 N. Fairway Lane and will act as a storage and sales center for the company, covering Eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and western Montana.

The new space will improve customer service and increase the amount of product Hörmann can distribute to the area, according to Alice Permigiani, chief editor and public relations specialist at Hörmann.

“We’re anticipating increased sales, and we will be able to accommodate (those sales) better with a more modern and larger facility,” Permigiani says.

Visible from Interstate 90 and north of Appleway Avenue and the Huntwood Custom Cabinets plant, the Liberty Lake sales center will be used for residential and commercial sectional-style doors, the same types of doors produced at the company's manufacturing plant in Puyallup, Washington.

Sectional garage doors are split horizontally into multiple panels, open vertically, and are suspended under the ceiling.

Prices of the commercial and residential garage doors vary depending on product selection and customization options, Permigiani adds.

Construction of the roughly 35,000-square-foot sales center began in May and is expected to be completed in summer 2025. A building permit on file with the city of Liberty Lake shows a construction value of about $3.6 million.

Plans for potential future phases include another roughly 35,000 square feet of space at the site, Permigiani says.

Initially, eight employees will work at the new sales center, but that number is expected to grow to at least 20 within a few years.

The facility will be equipped with high-level racking equipment, similar to what is used at the manufacturing plant in Puyallup.

“It’s basically going to be state of the art, so that it’s a lot easier to access materials for the customers,” Permigiani says. “They don’t have to wait. They can pick up things faster than they would have in the past.”

The site will also include a display area, enabling dealers to bring their customers by to show them the products.

“Our dealers who sell the sectional product line have access to the sales centers for picking up products,” Permigiani says.

The Liberty Lake sales center will serve over 200 garage-door dealers across the Northwest. Hörmann dealers are independent companies that sell, install, and service Hörmann products among their offerings.

Permigiani says the 5-acre Liberty Lake site was selected because of its proximity to the existing sales center, the extra space that can accommodate future expansions, and because it’s close to the freeway, creating easier access for dealers.

The move to Liberty Lake also comes ahead of anticipated growth at Hörmann, due to more consistent product lines nationwide.

“We’re harmonizing the product line for residential, specifically,” Permigiani says. “At one point, we had different models based on the part of the country.”

“With that in mind, we’re anticipating increased sales overall in all areas,” she says. “With our manufacturing plant being right there in Puyallup, which isn’t far away, we’re just anticipating more growth over the next five years.”

The new facility will feature six loading docks, all with Hörmann doors, dock levelers, and dock seals. There will also be two “will call” doors, which will allow the sales center to service four dealers at a time, Permigiani says.

Knoxville, Tennessee-based MBI Companies Inc. is the architect for the project. The company also designed Hörmann’s North American headquarters in Sparta, Tennessee.

Spokane Valley-based T.W. Clark Construction LLC is the project’s contractor.

Hörmann was founded in 1935 in Steinhagen, Germany. It entered the North American market in 2006 with the purchase of Montgomery, Illinois-based garage door manufacturer GADCO. It later expanded its presence with the purchase of three additional garage door manufacturers, including Northwest Door, in Puyallup.

Hörmann operates 40 manufacturing plants worldwide and employs over 6,000 people. It has five manufacturing plants in North America, two of which produce high-performance doors, like those used for parking garages, fire stations, warehouses, retail automotive, or other industrial and commercial settings. The other three plants, including the one in Puyallup, focus on the commercial and residential sectional doors.
