The Glover Mansion has been acquired by an entity that plans to convert a portion of the historic structure into offices for a Tacoma, Washington-based law firm.

Connelly Family Properties II Spokane LLC purchased the nearly 14,000-square-foot mansion at 321 W. Eighth, on Spokane's lower South Hill, for $1.9 million in late January, says Jack Connelly, a member of the ownership group and principal at Connelly Law Offices PLLC.

Connelly says the practice, which handles civil rights and personal injury cases throughout Washington, has a total of 19 attorneys, two—Colin Prince and Jay McEntire—of whom are based in Spokane.

“We do a number of cases in Spokane, so it will be an office for attorneys who come over,” he says. “I’m sure we'll add at least a couple more, but we’re not a large firm.”

The Glover Mansion was designed by famed architect Kirtland Cutter and constructed in 1888 for James Glover, who is credited with being the founder of the city of Spokane and served as its second mayor.

The three-story Tudor revival structure had been owned since 2004 by an entity led by Bob Adolfson, owner of Glover Mansion Events LLC, which also controls other venues, including Chateau Rive at the Flour Mill, in the North Bank neighborhood. Adolfson couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.

Connelly says Glover Mansion Events will continue to host weddings and events at the mansion through October, after which the law firm likely will host meetings and events.

“We’re not planning on changing the bottom floor,” Connelly says. “It will still be used, and its history will be preserved.”

Connelly is no stranger to operating in historic settings. Connelly Law Offices has offices in a historic 1870s building in Tacoma’s Old Town District and in the top floor of the iconic Smith Tower, in Seattle.

Connelly, who serves on the Gonzaga University advisory board, is an owner of the Tacoma Rainiers baseball team and owner of the Highlands Golf Course, in Tacoma.

Doug Byrd and Sharon Reynolds, of Spokane commercial real estate brokerage Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, and Barb Pielli, of Spokane-based Bornhoft Commercial, handled the real estate transaction.
