Chewelah, Washington, ski resort 49 Degrees North has been sold to an affiliate of Kellogg, Idaho's Silver Mountain Resort.

The new owner, Chewelah Mountain Resort Lands LLC, has acquired all assets of the resort, according to a press release issued this afternoon. The terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.

The management team at 49 Degrees remains intact with John Eminger continuing as the general manager after 23 years as the owner and operator.

The resort, about 60 miles north of Spokane, is a 2,250-acre ski area with seven lifts, two summits, three basins and a Nordic system located in the Colville National Forest, near Chewelah.

Eminger dispelled rumors last month regarding the Kalispel Tribe of Indians potentially purchasing 49 Degrees North. He told the Journal that the resort was for sale for the right price, although he said then that a sale wasn't imminent.

“I’m a small businessman and of course my business is for sale," he said. "I have a magic number in my head, and, yeah, if somebody wants to buy the ski area that’s great.”

The resort did sell roughly 70 acres of the 320-acre Sunrise Basin development for $1.8 million to Angel Peak in May of 2018, according to records filed with the Stevens County Assessor’s Office.

Prior to that sale, Eminger had planned to develop up to 2,200 residential units, 800 hotel rooms, and up to 360,000 square feet of commercial space in Sunrise Basin near the base of its Sunrise quad chairlift.

Silver Mountain Resort was acquired in 2016 by Seattle businessman Tryg Fortun. The two resorts will operate independently although a dual pass will debut this week to allow passholders to ski at either resort, the release says.
