Krav Maga Spokane

Restaurants & Retai

July 30, 2020

Brayson Buckner, the owner of the self-defense training studio Krav Maga Spokane, moved the north Spokane business in mid-July to 116 E. Augusta, from nearby 1403 N. Division.

Krav Maga now has doubled in size, taking up 7,000 square feet of space in a suite formerly occupied by a Crossfit Spokane studio.

Buckner says Crossfit Spokane has taken up occupancy across the street at 202 E. Mission, which served as home to the former Kimmel Athletic Supply Co. at one time.

Buckner also owns and operates 509Cryo, which promotes healing through cryotherapy. He says he’ll be able to bring the two businesses under one roof.

Additional space also was made available for both play and training for clients’ children, he says.

Earlier this month, one of Buckner’s clients confided to him and instructors that she used a tactical maneuver on a customer while at work.

The man entered a business ignoring orders to wear a mask in defiance of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s mandate to wear them to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

“When she asked him to put on mask, he shoved her, and she dropped him,” Buckner says. “She just dropped him. She weighs maybe 115, 120 pounds. It’s sad. But you know what? He got up and ran out of the store.”

He adds, “These are some very trying times right now. It’s not something that I’m proud to say, but it’s why I started the business 11 years ago. It’s sad, I know.”

Buckner says Krav Maga’s training hours remain 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday’s training hours are 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
