The city of Spokane has been awarded a $2.8 million grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce for solar, battery backup, and electric vehicle charging stations at the Spokane Water Department.
The grant is one of 38 totaling $36.6 million to support the planning, design, and implementation of clean energy projects across the state.
The grant awards represent the first round of awards from Commerce’s new Clean Energy Community Grants program, which is funded by revenue generated through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act.
Grant funding was awarded for planning or constructing projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use clean energy technology, and benefit overburdened populations.
An additional $5 million in grants is expected to be awarded later this spring, according to a press release from Commerce.
