Jewish community center Chabad of Spokane plans to build a 9,000-square-foot religious institution at 4111 E. 39th, on Spokane's South Hill.
Rabbi Yisroel Hahn, on behalf of Chabad, filed a State Environmental Policy Act application and conditional-use permit with the city of Spokane to develop the religious building on just under an acre in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Hahn declines to comment on the project.
Spokane County Assessor’s Office records show Chabad as the owner of the parcel, which fronts the north side of 39th Avenue and is situated between south Myrtle Street on the west and south Cuba Street on the east, just under a mile east of Ferris High School.
Chabad of Spokane is currently located at 4116 E. 37th.
Work is expected to begin in August, records show. No expected completion date was listed.
As envisioned, the facility will include a 3,000-square-foot multipurpose space for worship and instruction. A library, food prep, and communal fellowship area are also listed on the application. In addition, the building will house four students studying to be rabbis.
According to the application, the center will serve 20 to 30 members. Forty-two parking spots are listed on the application.
A predevelopment conference application filed in 2022 by Spokane-based Bernardo|Wills Architects PC listed the estimated project cost to be $2 million at that time.
Renderings were submitted with the application. No contractor is listed.
