Passages Family Support, a nonprofit outpatient behavioral health center, is working on a $2.2 million renovation of its building just off Sunset Boulevard in west Spokane, according to a building permit application filed with the city of Spokane.
“Passages is the recipient of a $2.25 million capital grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce,” says Rebecca Hammill, CEO of Passages, in an email to the Journal.
The grant was awarded through Commerce's Behavioral Health Facilities Program, she says.
The funds will be utilized to refurbish and remodel areas of the building, located at 1700 S. Assembly Road, in an effort to expand substance use disorder services, Hammill says.
The general contractor on the project is Spokane-based Cornerstone Construction & Development Inc., permit information shows. The project's architect is Spokane Valley-based DeRIVE Architecture LLC.
Passages purchased the 69,000-square-foot Sunset Pointe Business Park building for $10.1 million from Arger Sunset LLC in fall 2022, according to previous reporting by the Journal. The nonprofit had been a tenant in the 28-year-old building since 2018.
Passages was established in 2010 and provides mental health assessment, treatment, and support to children, youth, and adults. The nonprofit employs 75 people, according to the Journal's latest Largest Social-Service Nonprofits list published in October 2024.
