The Flying Pickle will occupy space in The Pointe at Post Falls, located at 140 N. Beck. The 237,000-square-foot building at 150 N. Beck remains vacant and is being leased by Black Commercial Inc.
A large industrial building at 140 N. Beck Road in Post Falls is being further transformed into a pickleball destination, as plans call for a 24-court indoor club alongside Selkirk Sport’s pickleball products manufacturing and fulfillment center.
The Flying Pickle, a pickleball club franchise based in Meridian, Idaho, will occupy about 85,000 square feet of the 163,000-square-foot building at The Pointe at Post Falls, says franchisee co-owner Alana Ashby.
Coeur d'Alene-based Selkirk Sport occupies the remaining space in the building and will partner with the club by selling its products through the retail pro shop, says Ron Clough, senior project manager of the pickleball equipment manufacturer. Selkirk Sport moved into the building when construction was completed in 2023.
The property is part of a two-building industrial center at 140 and 150 N. Beck Road. The neighboring 240,000-square-foot building at 150 N. Beck remains vacant and is owned by Utah-based Wadsworth Development Group and their equity partner, says leasing agent Darren Slackman, of Black Commercial Inc., in an email to the Journal.
Tenant improvements on the $5 million project begin next week, and Ashby says she anticipates opening the facility by June.
Amenities at the club will mirror those at the Flying Pickle's Meridian club but on a larger scale, Ashby says. The Post Falls facility will include a kitchen and bar, a mezzanine for corporate events, and cameras on every court so players can record and review their matches.
A club director and pro director will oversee programming, lessons, and tournaments, in addition to other games such as ping pong or cornhole, that may be added for players who are waiting between matches, she adds.
“It's 24 courts, so it qualifies us for all of the (Professional Pickleball Association) tournaments, (Amateur Pickleball Association) tournaments — all of the big professional tournaments,” Ashby says. “It's going to have a very large championship court.”
The Spokane office of Billings, Montana-based Cushing Terrell is the architect of the tenant improvement project, and the Spokane office of Concord, California-based Swinerton Builders is the general contractor overseeing the build, Ashby says.
Ashby, of Middleton, Idaho, says Post Falls was chosen after scouting sites across several states, including Tennessee and Georgia.
“Post Falls was one of the best options with the demographics you have there,” Ashby says. “With the colder climate, the Spokane interest, it's right off the freeway, and it's really accessible to Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Spokane, and all of those areas. And the facility is beautiful. It's going to be beautiful.”
The Flying Pickle was founded by pickleball pros Susannah Barr and Nick Petterson, according to the company’s website. The Post Falls location is the first franchisee location for Ashby and her business partner, Duane McPherson.
The brand has existing or planned locations in Idaho, Washington, Montana, Tennessee, Nevada, Arizona, California, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas, according to The Flying Pickle's website.
