As president and CEO of Downtown Spokane Partnership, Emilie Cameron leads the private, nonprofit membership organization in its work alongside city leaders, business and property owners, and other community stakeholders to create opportunities for growth focused on economic vitality, housing, and safety in the city's core.

DSP operates within an 80-block area known as the Business Improvement District, which allows downtown business owners to pool financial resources to more effectively pay for enhanced services and programs. The district is home to 850 business owners and 350 property parcels.

For Cameron, working in urban place management is one of the few paths that offer the opportunity to turn ideas into visible, tangible results that people get to experience every day, she says.

Education: Bachelor's degree in history, minor in communications, University of California, Davis; Leadership in Place Management certification, International Downtown Association.

What is a major professional accomplishment you are proud of? Serving as the president and CEO of Downtown Spokane Partnership is my most rewarding professional accomplishment. It brings together everything I value in leadership: purpose-driven action, meaningful partnerships, and long-term impact. This role allows me to apply a diverse set of experiences to strengthen downtown, support businesses, and help create momentum that benefits our community. Leading work that shapes Spokane’s future alongside the many talented leaders in this community is an honor.

How would you describe yourself as a leader? I believe that leadership is rooted in action, intention, and purpose, especially in Spokane, where thoughtful leadership truly matters. My approach focuses on partnerships and long-term sustainability — creating progress that lasts beyond any single project and strengthens the community as a whole.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto? "Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure impact lasts in your absence."
