Drawn to the intersection between people and policy, Greater Spokane Incorporated CEO Alisha Benson says she applies her focuses to community and economic development, allowing her to prioritize her long-term goals of bringing people together and shaping the future of the community she loves.
Benson has spent 18 years at the regional chamber of commerce, holding several positions before ascending to CEO in 2019. She credits her mentors and peers, who have encouraged her to think strategically through times of complexity to help her lead the organization through periods of change while maintaining its operational stability.
Benson also serves as staff liaison for Greater Spokane Incorporated's Regional Visionaries Committee, a leadership group that discusses strategic needs and efforts in the Spokane region, and provides feedback to the organization's executive board.
Developing partnerships and watching people succeed are what make Benson most proud within her work, she says.

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job beyond babysitting was delivering newspapers on a rural route in Montana. It was early in the morning and at the time, people depended on you for their news each day. It taught me accountability, time management, and dependability.
How would you describe yourself as a leader? Collaborative, values-driven, and steady. I like bringing people together around a shared vision and giving them space to lead.
What's the best career advice you've received? Play the long game. Relationships, trust, and integrity matter more than any single moment or milestone.
What's been the most important risk you've taken, and why? Stepping into leadership roles during times of uncertainty. These moments pushed me to trust myself, grow, and lead with confidence.
How do you relax and unwind? Spending time with my family, being outdoors, and unplugging when I can.
