Lakeside Cos. has acquired The Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls, where the company plans to improve the course and its amenities following the conclusion of this year’s golf season, the Coeur d'Alene-based company announced in a press release.

The company isn’t scheduling any changes to the course’s day-to-day operations until after the season ends, says Maria Lusardi, operating director at Lakeside Cos. and is looking for feedback from golfers and the community as to what can be improved.

“Our intention is (to make) long-term investments that protect the history and value of the course in Post Falls and improve the playing experience,” she says.

Lusardi declines to disclose the terms of the acquisition. The Kootenai County Assessor’s Office values the golf course property, located at 5600 E. Mullan, at $3.7 million.

Lakeside Cos. purchased the property from Kirk Hill, who owned the course through Highlands Golf Course LLC, Lusardi says. Hill was the golf course’s third owner, the Journal previously reported.

As planned, the company’s anticipated first phase improvements will focus on the installation of a new irrigation pond that also will function as a sixth water feature near the 16th hole of the course, she says.

Lakeside Cos. also plans to make improvements to the overall conditions of the course, irrigation system, landscaping, and facilities, including the pro shop and The Highlands Grill & Tap House, she says.

“We're really trying to be intentional and make a good plan, and not just rush into some of the improvements until we've had some time to really understand the course,” says Lusardi.

Whether Lakeside Cos. will make staffing changes or adjust course fees hasn’t been determined yet, Lusardi adds.

The Highlands Golf Course was constructed in 1990. The 18-hole course currently has five water features and a 400-yard grass tee driving range.

Golfers played an estimated 30,000 rounds on the course in 2025, Lusardi says, adding that she expects the course to maintain visits going forward. She declines to disclose the latest annual revenue or number of full-time employees at the golf course.

Games at Highland cost $58 for an 18-hole adult round and different rates are available for seniors, and others, according to The Highlands Golf Course website.

"As golfers enjoy the remainder of the season, a lot of the work will continue kind of behind the scenes," Lusardi says. "Then, as the golf season winds down, we'll shift into a higher gear around focusing on significant improvements throughout the property."

Lakeside Cos., which owns and manages a diverse portfolio of assets across multiple sectors, was founded in 1997 by business magnate and philanthropist John Hemmingson.
