The city of Spokane entered a 90-day review period after a special City Council meeting on Aug. 25, as part of an $18.5 million plan to purchase space for a new criminal justice campus.

If the city decides to purchase the property — an office park known as Rock Pointe East, at 124 W. Boone, 1230 N. Normandie, and 1313 N. Atlantic — the city’s Municipal Court, prosecution, and public defense offices, and Spokane’s Police Administration would move to the property from three leased buildings.

The city currently pays approximately $1.2 million annually to lease the Public Safety Building at 1100 W. Mallon, Monroe Court at 901 N. Monroe, and 824 Monroe, information included in the meeting agenda states.

The proposed purchase includes the 236,000-square-foot office park, a neighboring vacant lot, a 661-stall parking structure, and skywalks, according to the Aug. 25 meeting agenda.

The city plans to purchase the property to improve public safety and access to criminal justice and defense resources, eliminate the need for several additional office leases, and reduce current operational restraints, the agenda states.

RBS Commerical Funding Inc. and C-III Asset Management LLC, both of Irving, Texas, currently own the property, according to the Spokane County Assessor’s Office.
