Mail Box Center changes hands

After more than 30 years, the Mail Box Center, in Spokane Valley, has changed hands.

But the genetic fingerprints aren’t too dissimilar from the previous owner.

Kaleena Greer recently purchased the business, located at 9116 E. Sprague, from her aunt, Karen Lucas.

“It was time for her to retire, travel, play golf, and take care of her mom,” Greer says. “This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time for both Karen and me. I’ve always wanted to run my own business.”

Greer acquired the business with her husband, Brett Greer, and the two co-own Mail Box Center.

Mail Box Center operates in 2,800 square feet of space and has five employees, she says.

As its name implies, the company handles business and personal postal service for its long-time clientele. Mail Box Center also has secured state and federal contracts for screening and fingerprinting services for employers that require security clearances for new hires.

Greer, 27, says she’s a former team leader for Premera Blue Cross, where she was employed for over seven years.

“I think the best way to describe what I was doing was that of an operations call center leader,” she says. “That role – trying to achieve high-level customer service – has really helped me with the transition to running this business.”

Greer adds, “I love the relationships that Karen developed. We have customers who’ve been coming here for more than 20 years.”

Greer says she’s still leaning on Lucas’ expertise during the transition process.
