Barnes to add two buildings in Airway Heights

New space intended to fill need for smaller industrial facilities

August 29, 2019

The Barnes Industrial Complex LLC, located at 11509 W. 21st, in Airway Heights, hopes to provide space for smaller industrial tenants with the addition of two new buildings, says owner Kraig Barnes.

At 4,800 square feet apiece, the buildings will be steel structures that will accommodate two tenants each, he says. The complex currently houses two other industrial buildings, each totaling 4,800 square feet.

“The Airway Heights area is really starting to grow, and the economy is good,” he says. “There’s a real need for smaller square footage lease units.”

He  says he doesn’t have a particular type of tenant in mind yet.

“I have everything from a pot grower in one and a detail shop in the other,” Barnes says.

The groundwork already has been completed on the $675,000 project, and he anticipated having building permits in hand by late August.

Construction on the two buildings should go fairly quickly, he says. Work is expected to be completed by October.

“They’re very simple buildings,” he says.

Walls Construction Corp., of Spokane Valley, will build the walls, Barnes says, and then Barnes’ team will finish the construction work. He adds that no architect was hired for the project, and the designs for the buildings came from Walls.

Metro Engineering Inc., of Spokane, provided civil engineering services.

Barnes is the president and owner of Paintcrafters Plus Inc., a commercial painting company, and Fluid Applied Roofing, a commercial roofing contractor. Both companies are located within the Barnes Industrial Complex.

According to the Spokane County Assessor’s office website, Barnes purchased the 2.2-acre property in 2003 for $84,500.

He then transferred ownership of the land to the Barnes Industrial Complex LLC in 2010.
