The Spokane Valley-based water utility company Consolidated Irrigation District No. 19, in Liberty Lake, has requested a permit to build a 2-million-gallon drinking-water storage tank valued at $3.9 million in Liberty Lake.

The water tank is planned at 20761 E. Valley Vista Drive, in the Legacy Ridge West First Addition subdivision. The project site is a vacant, 36,100-square-foot parcel.

Shane Sheppard, the irrigation district manager, says the storage tank will serve the Legacy Ridge housing development. The district is working with the Spokane office of national homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc., which has additional development planned at Legacy Ridge.

Sheppard says the district will put the project out for contractor bids before Christmas and plans to start construction next spring. The water tank is expected to be completed by fall 2023, he adds.

Varela Engineering & Management, of Spokane, is providing engineering services, Sheppard says.

The tank will be about 110 feet in diameter and 46 feet tall at the peak of its domed top. Permit information says site improvements will include a 30-foot-wide, 200-foot-long access road.

A catch area will funnel stormwater underground to a detention pond on the southwest corner of Kramer Parkway and Valley Vista Drive.

According to the summary of proposed work, single-family homes currently are under construction to the north and east of the project site. To the south and west is an 11.5-acre parcel of vacant land that is expected to be developed in later phases of the Legacy Ridge development.
