MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care plans to open two more clinics in the Spokane area, for a total of five urgent-care clinics throughout the county.

The organization is remodeling a nearly 2,600-square-foot former shoe store at 2401 W. Wellesley, in the Shadle Center shopping mall, into a clinic that will have five exam rooms and other additional clinic support space, says Shari Campbell, Tacoma-based director of marketing for Indigo.

At 2713 N. Argonne, in Millwood, a former MultiCare Rockwood urgent care clinic also is being remodeled into an Indigo clinic, Campbell says. She expects the remodel will be completed before the Shadle clinic is finished and opens in September.

Indigo has $800,000 budgeted for construction, Campbell says. Spokane-based Bouten Construction Co. is the contractor on the Shadle site’s remodel, and Tacoma-based BCRA designed it. 

Bouten also is the contractor on the Argonne project.

The Shadle facility will offer standard urgent-care clinic services, including X-rays and treatment of lacerations, upper respiratory infections, colds, and flus. 

It will have eight employees and three providers, Campbell says.

“We’re open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, so the idea is to have plenty of coverage,” she says. “We’re definitely busier in the cough, cold, flu season … we always make sure we have enough staff so that we can add extra staff in those busy areas.”

Indigo was launched in 2016 by Tacoma-based MultiCare Health Care System with a focus of placing clinics next to grocery stores and shopping centers.

Indigo’s current locations in Spokane County include clinics on the South Hill, at 4911 S. Regal; North Spokane at 9420 N. Newport Highway; and in Spokane Valley, at 15605 E. Sprague. 

It currently operates a total of 19 urgent care clinics in Washington state. Campbell adds that two of Indigo’s clinics — in North Spokane and in Spokane Valley — also offer occupational medicine services that provide more options for employers.
