'Shark Tank' producers invite Spokane startup to appear this season

November 3, 2022
Karina Elias

On Friday, Nov. 11, Tim Loucks, founder of Square Keg LLC, which does business as SquareKeg will appear on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” a reality TV show in which budding entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to present their business ideas to the show’s celebrity investors.

Loucks, who launched SquareKeg in 2018, says he was sought out by producers from the show last spring and flew to Los Angeles for the shoot in July. He didn’t know whether he would be aired on national television until mid-October. While Loucks says he is prohibited from speaking about the outcome of his appearance before the show airs, he can say that he went on the show hoping to make a deal.

“I personally went with the intention to make a deal if it was the right person and the right deal,” he says. “Being able to tap into the resources and experiences of those people would be invaluable.”

He adds that he also knew that if he was chosen to air SquareKeg on national TV, it would benefit the business.

“Consumer acquisition costs through digital marketing nowadays is just so expensive,” he explains. “Going on the show would give us the exposure we would never be able to afford through traditional marketing channels.”

Loucks created SquareKeg to maximize volume efficiency as well as ensure that beer and other drinks weren’t wasted like in traditional round kegs. In 2020, he began manufacturing one-gallon, stainless steel SquareOne kegs for the consumer market.

Last year, Loucks says, the company sold thousands of SquareOne kegs, but declined to give an exact figure.

Last year, SquareKeg moved into its own manufacturing space, a 5,000-square-foot facility in the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, at 3808 N. Sullivan, in Spokane Valley.
