Humble Abode Brewery planned on North Side

-

June 21, 2018

Matt Gilbreath and his wife, Courtney, plan later this month to open a brewery, to be called Humble Abode Brewery, in the Whitman neighborhood on Spokane’s North Side.

“I didn’t really have any previous brewing experience,” says Gilbreath. “I just started home brewing a year or so ago, but I’d always wanted to own my own business.”

Gilbreath has an associate degree from Spokane Falls Community College and studied business administration at Eastern Washington University.

He says the brewery will be located in 2,200 square feet of leased space formerly occupied by an auto detailing shop at 1620 E. Houston.

“About 800 square feet will be the tasting room portion, with the rest being the brewhouse area,” he says.

Legacy Builders & Development, of Spokane, is remodeling the space to include some new walls, cold storage, a tasting room, and offices, he says.

Gilbreath says he and his wife will be Humble Abode’s only employees initially.

“We’re hoping to start small with just some self-distribution, and basically just become a go-to spot in the neighborhood,” he says. “We’re not really looking to get too big or distribute to larger retailers, just hoping people like our product, and we can make an OK living doing something we love.”
