Franchisee opens first Mattress Depot on the South Hill

Seattle retailer also looks to develop Valley presence

September 22, 2016

A franchisee of Mattress Depot USA, a Seattle-based mattress retailer, has opened the chains’s first Spokane-area store.

The store is located in about 2,400 square feet of leased retail space in the Regal Plaza shopping center, at 3104 E. Palouse Highway.

Ryan Leaf, not to be confused with the former Washington State University quarterback of the same name, is the owner of the new Spokane outlet.

Leaf was born and raised in Spokane and has worked with the chain for the past 11 years.

“I’ve always dreamed of bringing our brand back to my hometown,” says Leaf. “The area is pretty saturated with mattress stores already, but none like ours.”

He adds, “It was just a logical progression as we continue to build value in the Pacific Northwest.”

Leaf says the store, which is located between a Mod Pizza restaurant and a Target store, has three employees currently.

Leaf says plans are in the works to open a second location here in the next few months, likely in Spokane Valley.

“Once we open that store, it will be the 27th Mattress Depot,” he says.

Mattress Depot, started in 2002 by David and Torey Smith, sells mattresses, bed sets, bed frames, and accessories.

It offers same-day delivery and a 120-day guarantee.
