Vandervert Construction builds, converts lube centers for Valvoline

Fast-lube concern to test newest store design here

May 5, 2016

Lexington, Ky.-based Valvoline Instant Oil Change has selected Vandervert Construction Inc., of Spokane, to convert 70 former Oil Can Henry’s Outlets to the Valvoline brand and to construct two new prototype lube centers in the Pacific Northwest, says Andrea Barlow, a Vandervert spokeswoman.

The two new 2,600-square-foot service centers will be erected this summer in Longview, Wash., and Grants Pass, Ore., Barlow says.

The Grants Pass project is valued at $700,000, and the Longview project is valued at $560,000, she says.

Earlier this month, Valvoline’s parent company, Ashland Inc., acquired Oil Can Henry’s, which had operated 89 fast-lube stores in six Western states.

With the acquisition, Valvoline Instant Oil Change has more than 1,000 company-owned and franchise stores throughout the U.S.

So far this year, Vandervert Construction has converted 40 Oil Can Henry’s locations to Valvoline Instant Oil Change for a total value of $550,000 and plans to convert another 30 stores in the next couple of months, Barlow says.

The conversion work will be conducted at service centers throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, she says.

Eight locations, including four service centers in the Spokane area and four in Eugene, Ore., have been selected for more intense “reimaging,” which will involve more than swapping out signs, logos, and branding.

“It will be totally redoing the exterior and everything,” she says. “They’re using those for test markets for the new Valvoline Instant Oil Change look and store design.”

The stores in the reimaging program here are located at 411 S. Thor, in the East Central neighborhood; at 12108 N. Division, on Spokane’s North Side; at 5220 W. Lowell, in the Indian Trail neighborhood; and at 2117 N. Argonne Road, in Spokane Valley.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change service centers provide stay-in-your-car preventive maintenance services, including oil changes and transmission, radiator, gearbox, and air conditioning services conducted by trained technicians.

The company’s website claims it’s the second largest quick-lube chain, and Valvoline oil is the third-largest selling brand of passenger car motor oil. Valvoline also produces and markets a number of premium-branded automotive, commercial, and industrial lubricants and chemicals worldwide.

Vandervert Construction, which was founded in 1975, offers general contracting, design-build, and construction management services to private clients throughout Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana.
